Introduction

We are starting to prepare for our next vacation in May of 2026. We decided on a cruise that will take us from Southampton in England through the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland with a brief stop in the Baltic country of Estonia. Hopefully, we will obtain a good understanding of Scandinavian history, including the Vikings, and see modern day Nordic life.

This will be Margaret’s first trip to the Scandinavian countries. I visited there during a post graduate vacation fifty years ago. So, it will seem to be brand new to me. During our visit to Copenhagen, we hope to meet up with our friend Joe N, who we played softball with many, many years ago.  He threw the best parties that seem to always include breakfast.

Again, we are cruising on our favourite cruise line, Celebrity. The ship is Celebrity Apex, which is one of Celebrities larger ships. We were on a sister ship last year, and even though there are lot more passengers on board it never felt crowded because of the space and the layout of the ship.

We won’t be travelling with our regular cruising buddies. So, we will hopefully be meeting lots of new friends. It has worked out well in the past, and we see no reason why this trip should be any different.

We are going to be flying to London on Virgin Airlines. This will be our first time using this airline and I’m interested in seeing if there is much of difference between them and Air Canada. Thankfully, we booked well in advance and didn’t get charged with the fuel surcharges that are common since the start of the Iran war.
